Finding biblical truth in all your favorite tunes

“How do I know what God’s will is for me?”

It’s a question that believers all over the world are asking. So, why is it so difficult to find an answer? Let’s explore the Bible and listen to a fun tune to find the answer.

Truth:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. – Proverbs 3:5-6

To trust is to recognize that God’s will and plans are your best bet for living. And the opposite, to lean on your own understanding, means to rely on your own life plan. Think about flying on an airplane. Do you trust that the pilot will safely get you where you need to go? And if there’s turbulence, do you knock on the cockpit door and insist that the pilot let you fly the plane? No, of course not! You already know you can’t fly an airplane, so you stay in your seat – even when the path is a little bumpy.

To submit is to actively choose to put your life, desires, plans, and dreams in God’s hands. It is not a passive thing, but a daily decision to ask God to help you desire His will instead of your own. A straight path is a focused one. When you choose to surrender and trust God’s wisdom, your path will be focused on God instead of your own understanding.

So, “how do I know what God’s will is for me?” Trust, lean, submit, repeat.

Tune:

Follow the Yellow Brick Road from The Wizard of Oz

When Dorothy first arrived in Oz, all she wanted was to go back home. And before sending her on her way, the Good Witch of the North and the Munchkins told her to walk along the yellow brick road.

Sometimes life can feel like that, right? We’re heading towards the Emerald City, but along the way we encounter a fork in the road, angry apple trees, and one very scared lion. We might even be kidnapped by a witch with a green face!

But what is your role here? Follow the road. And that might be all that God tells you! Follow the road. Walk towards Him, even when it feels ambiguous and a little out of control.

So today, let this song be a reminder that even though the future might feel uncertain, there is a God who wants to guide you. And there is a path you can follow. Trust, lean, submit, repeat.
